What is OTAdrive
An Over-The-Air update (or OTA update), or over-the-air programming (or OTA programming), is an update to an embedded system delivered through a wireless network, such as Wi-Fi or a cellular network. These embedded systems include mobile phones, tablets, set-top boxes, cars, and telecommunications equipment. OTA updates for vehicles and Internet of Things devices can also be called firmware over-the-air (FOTA). [Wikipedia]
OTAdrive is a cloud service enabling you to manage your IoT devices. Its services include FOTA (Firmware OTA), Configuration, and Resources. Each service is designed to meet companies' requirements for mass IoT device production and future support.
- FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air): The most important service you need for IoT device production in any count of devices. It allows you to upgrade your devices' firmware via the internet (OTAdrive website).
- Configuration: Most IoT devices have some features and customizations you need to change per device or customer. This feature gives you infinite parameters for each device (or group of devices).
- Resources: Some IoT devices have static files for the UI or other usages. For example, your ADSL modem has an internal HTML page that enables you to configure it. If your device needs files other than the main application, such as HTML, JPG, or MP3,… this feature is what you need to manage and update these files, the same as firmware.
The OTAdrive lets you split your devices into several products, each with several device groups. Each device group could have a different firmware version, configuration, and resources.
Every device should have a unique serial number. Usually, the device's MAC address is used as its serial number.
What is a product and device group
The OTAdrive lets you split your devices into several products, each with several device groups. Each device group could have a different firmware version, configuration, and resources.
How to add a device
The device will add automatically to your OTAdrive after the first successful connection. Then you should grant access to the device by Verify it.
How many devices can I have
It depends on your membership plan. By default, every free user could use up to 10 devices for the test purpose. In the free plan, a device never clears from the OTAdrive history, so if you connect a device, it is always yours. For paid memberships, you can delete a device if it doesn't connect to the OTAdrive for 330 days.
